## Overview

Interface Templates give admins a central place in company settings to define standard configurations for all users in a given role. Admins set the defaults once and can optionally prevent users from changing them.

Two elements are currently configurable: the **tab order on the Customer detail page** and the **table columns on index pages** (Table Configuration). More elements will follow in the coming weeks: Customer Sidebar, Notification Settings, and Homepage Reports.

## How it works: Customer Detail Tab Order

### Step 1: Open Interface Templates in settings

Navigate to company settings and open the "Interface Templates" section. This section is only visible to users with the Settings access right.

### Step 2: Select or create a template

Each user role has exactly one Interface Template assigned. Select the template you want to edit, or create a new one.

### Step 3: Configure the tab order

Open the "Customer Detail Tab Order" section within the template and set your preferred tab sequence.

### Step 4: Enable Enforce (optional)

Decide whether users can adjust the order themselves or not.

- **Enforce off (default):** Users receive the defined order as a starting point and can reorder tabs on the Customer detail page.
- **Enforce on:** Users see the admin-defined order and cannot change it. A hint appears on the Customer detail page: "Tab order is managed by your admin."

### Step 5: Apply to existing users (optional)

When Enforce is off and you want to push the new tab order to existing users, click "Apply tab order now." New users always receive the configuration automatically.

## How it works: Table Configuration

The Table Configuration card lets you define the default columns for the list and index pages across Bilendo, for example Customers, Journal Entries, Reminders, Letters, and Credit Limits, including their sub-lists such as Reminder Drafts, Sent, and Archive.

### Step 1: Open the Table Configuration card

Open the template you want to edit. Below the tab-order settings you will find the "Table Configuration" card, which lists one row per configurable index page.

### Step 2: Configure the columns

Click "Configure" on the row for the page you want to set up. In the column editor you choose which columns are shown, their order, the default sorting, and per-column alignment, font weight, and color. This is the same editor your users already know from customizing their own tables.

### Step 3: Enable Enforce (optional)

- **Enforce off (default):** The configured columns become the starting point for new users. Existing users keep their own columns until you apply the configuration. Users can still customize their columns via the table-settings menu at the bottom of the index page.
- **Enforce on:** All users in the assigned roles see the admin-defined columns and can no longer customize them. In the table-settings menu, the "Edit my Table" option is replaced by the hint "Columns are managed by your administrator."

### Step 4: Apply Now (optional)

When Enforce is off and you want to push the configured columns to existing users right away, click "Apply Now" on that row. This resets the personal column configuration of all users in the assigned roles for that table, without changing the Enforce setting. New users always receive the configuration automatically.

## Good to know

- Each user role has exactly one Interface Template. You can define different tab orders and table columns for different roles.
- When switching Enforce from on to off, users start from the admin-defined configuration as their new baseline. Previous personal configurations are not restored.
- Enabling Enforce immediately overwrites the personal configuration of all affected users with the template configuration.
- Table Configuration is set per table. You can enforce columns for some tables while leaving others open for users to customize.
- Table Configuration applies to the on-screen index tables only. It does not affect PDF layouts, such as reminder or letter PDFs.
- Existing customers have automatically received migrated configurations that reflect their previous company-level settings.

## Coming soon in Interface Templates

The following elements will be configurable in Interface Templates over the coming weeks:

- **Configurable Customer Sidebar (New Feature):** Default sidebar layout
- **Notification Settings:** Default notification preferences per user role
- **Homepage Reports:** Default report selection and arrangement on the homepage

## Frequently asked questions

**Will all users see the new tab order immediately?**
No, only new users receive the order automatically. For existing users, the configuration must be manually pushed using "Apply tab order now" (only relevant when Enforce is off).

**What happens when I enable Enforce?**
All users governed by this template immediately receive the admin-defined configuration. For tab order, they can no longer reorder tabs; for table columns, they can no longer customize columns.

**Can I set different tab orders or column layouts for different teams?**
Yes. Create a separate Interface Template for each user role with the desired configuration.

**A user can no longer customize the columns of a list. What happened?**
Enforce has most likely been enabled for that table in your Interface Template. Affected users see the admin-defined columns and the hint "Columns are managed by your administrator." in the table-settings menu. Disable Enforce for that table to give users control again.

**Which pages can I configure columns for?**
Most list and index pages in Bilendo, for example Customers, Journal Entries, Reminders, Letters, and Credit Limits, including sub-lists such as Reminder Drafts, Sent, and Archive. The Table Configuration card lists every configurable page.

**Do my column settings affect PDF documents?**
No. Table Configuration applies to the on-screen index tables only. PDF layouts are configured separately.
